Google Model Your Town Competition 2010

"Show your civic pride (and maybe win a prize) by creating a 3D portrait of your community and sharing it with the world. You have the power to get your town on the map – and there's no bigger map than Google Earth.
See what other towns have done (Google Earth file)"

I have been waiting for something like this! 3D Services plans to enter this competition. The grand prize is publicity for the city plus $10,000 for the Frederick County Public School system.

John Brown's Fort

This is my latest model to be accepted into Google Earth. No, this model is not in Frederick. It's actually in Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. This is a model that I created of John Brown's fort. Who is John Brown?

According to Wikipedia

"John Brown (May 9, 1800 – December 2, 1859) was an American abolitionist, and folk hero who advocated and practiced armed insurrection as a means to end all slavery. He led the Pottawatomie Massacre in 1856 in Bleeding Kansas and made his name in the unsuccessful raid at Harpers Ferry in 1859."

To commemorate the 150th anniversary of that raid I decided to do a model of the fort and upload it to Google Warehouse here.

Welcome

My name is Darian E. Robbins. I am a multimedia artist living in Frederick, MD. I set up this blog to chronicle my goal of creating a full 3D model of my city in Google Earth. It is my hope that overtime I will be able to partner with local organizations and businesses to make this happen, as I believe it will be a great way to showcase Frederick to the rest of the world. Follow my adventures. I will be posting updates and lists of buildings that I am working on, as well a news information about partnerships and contracts that I develop pursuing this venture. For now take a look at some models I already have checked in.
